Have you browsed the FA pitchers?

It's a bunch of Buzz's girlfriends out there.

You’re right it is bad

You got those 4-5 guys who are constant stream options - low K, 4+, 50/50 chance at a QS kinda guy - he could be one of those guys. And he’s pitching to a 5+ FIP

He was spinning last night tho. Made the Cubs look bad

Pretty sure that's exactly why he didn't get the H.

blame the Rays and their bastard experiment. under normal circumstances you can't get credit for holds or saves before the 6th inning because you could qualify for the win.

The Rays had 3 pitchers pitch before the 6th.

Stanek 2 IP 0 H 0 ER 0 BB 3K
Pruitt 2.2 IP 4 H 1 ER 0 BB 1 K
Venters .1 IP 1 BB

Who gets the W is up to the score keeper based on who they think was the most efficient RP.

No idea how that goes to Pruitt but thank God Wins isn't a cat for us.

His HR/9 is up, his BB/9 is up, his K/9 is down... none of that is good... but I'm still taking the guy with some recent history of success over the average FA right now.

His ERA+ is right at league average... that's good enough to be rostered in a league this deep.

Seems like a situation that the stats guys/scorekeepers are going to have to address if teams keep trying out bullpen days.

Stanek was by far the most effective pitcher, but he couldn't get the W.

And they could have given the W to one of the RPs that pitched later in the game as well. Nothing at all in the scorekeeping rules states that it has to be a RP that pitched in the first 5 innings, or that you can't get a HD in the first 5 innings.

I understand that, at the time, Venters could have theoretically been awarded the W, but once the scorekeeper gives it to Pruitt, Venters should get a HD.

Sure, I can agree. Just not trade capital in his current state

As to the hold, I’m thinking it’s 6th inning on

That's not in the official scorekeeping rules or the MLB definition.

It's obvious that's how it was interpreted... but... there's no justification for it.

Probably so.

Probably has happened already this season with the Rays, I just didn't notice because it wasn't one of my guys.

I hate the fricking Volvo commercial on MLB network. “These are a few of my favorite things” - isn’t that an Xmas song

HLD isn't an official MLB stat and there is some interp involved. Per most definitions, in order to record a HLD the RP has to pitch a full inning in a SV situation or has to record at least one out with a tying runner on-base, at bat or on deck. The key is "save situation" which is official and defined as follows:

quote:

He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
He enters the game, regardless of the score, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck; or
He pitches for at least three innings. (The word "effectively" has been removed from the MLB rules.)

LINK

Venters didn't pitch 1 INN, but looking at the boxscore it appears the tying run was either on-base, at bat or on deck. I think the fact that it's not an official stat and that the winning pitcher was still unknown, resulted in the scorekeeper deciding not to award the HLD.

Thought about an OTB involving a combo of

Pham
or
D. Murphy

AND

Strasburg
or
Marco

for an upgrade but decided to not waste my time.

Nice little 3/4 with a 2-run triple MLB debut for David Fletcher this afternoon. That's how you work on more playing time.
