Nexus 5X won't reboot

My Nexus spontaneously shut off and then tried to reboot. The only thing that happens is "Google" is displayed as if it is booting normally, but then after a while sitting there, the screen goes black. Then a few seconds later, "Google" appears again, ad nauseum. I tried the power button + down volume button recovery reboot. It does bring up the screen, but any of the options I select only sends me back into the terminal loop. I let the battery run all the way down hoping that would give me an actual reset, but no luck. Please help! TIA

Happened to my 6P last week.
If you bought through the Play Store, I'd go ahead and reach out to Google.
If you didn't and you're still under warranty reach out to manufacturer.
If you didn't buy through Play Store and aren't under warranty I'd try and raise hell on both and hope they do something for you.

I bought through Play store - 2 years ago. I think warranty is gone. I'm looking for a tech solution: am I screwed or is there a way to rescue this thing? How would I even do a hard factory reboot if I wanted?

just call google, they have been honoring warranties way past the dates I was given for my phones

You're pretty much screwed. There is a root solution but will make your phone slower.
The problem is a processor issue of some sort where the cores overload the system preventing it from booting.
I'd try the Play Store, as they have been giving out Pixels to users with this issue.

This happened to both mine and my wife's 5x. LG repaired them by replacing entire circuit board inside. It was unclear if they replaced the battery too.
I doubt there is a software fix.

Google sent me a replacement phone and next day aired it. However, they had a authorization hold on my account. $214 and been almost 3 weeks and have yet to refund me.

You're supposed to send in the old phone back to them. Did you do that?

Yes, and I got the confirmation email.
Google keeps telling me that they are working on it.

Like it's been said before, Google has been honoring this problem since it's very common. Get on chat and tell them your phone is bootlooping. They usually send a refurbished unit. If they don't have any, they'll probably just send you a new one or refund your money.

Happened to my wife's as well and LG gave some BS excuse about it having water damage.

Call Customer Service. They will likely run you through the same series of troubleshooting steps you have found online...once they have confirmed those don't work they will send you a replacement. Went through the same thing a few months back.
