Presumably that first 17 hours would have been evacuating before the storm hit and before the 72 hours post-storm window started.

Hell, lets throw in 10 hours for eating and sleeping before heading back. And another 10 hours back at home to see your situation and get some sleep before your shift
You still have 22 hours before you hit your limit. Almost a full day.
So now its not what can be done.
Now its "I'm not driving all that way unless I can spend some time with them."
I didn't realize my "stretching evacuation to a vacation" comment would be validated so overtly and quickly.
