BYU didn't trust their DBs at all SEC teams will be able to play man outside and put more in the box
My impression was that oddly enough, their soft stance was somewhat related to fearing the runs that don't come straight at them.

Mainly it works great because it's worth the risk when we can't protect the QB enough to take advantage of it. But that's another story.

I'm assuming they will continue to try it, and Canada will see if from film... the question is how does he combat it assuming QB will have very little time.
How many times did we see CBs slice in for a tackle on Fournette after being moved sideways? Alot. Not safeties, CBs.
What they do is creep the S up, and wide, but that's not for run support. That is for coverage. The S basically shifts into soft coverage on the WR, the CB will jam and then release but be setup in an inside position (to avoid being blocked) and then cover the run by being containment which frees up a LB or DE to crash down or penetrate (thereby disrupting an inside run and forcing it outside).
As far as jet sweeps, that puts an accounted for but unblocked, or poorly blocked, person on the outside.
