It is a first person shooter. It does have pvp.
I gathered that much.

It is nothing like CoD besides those two things.
So, gameplay is not CoD. Thats cool.
What strategy is involved with creating a character. The only experience I have with RPGish game is The Division.

In Destiny 2 there is 3 classes to pick from. They all play differently but it is nothing drastic like a typical RPG. No holy trinity or anything. All classes use the same guns so you can play to your play style with any class. Just pick whatever you like the most. I can promise you if you like the game you will make 1 of each. It is that addicting.
Yes, gameplay is not CoD. You do have the traditional shooter mechanics but time to kill is much slower, mobility is much more vertical, you cannot go prone, and their are special abilities each class has (supers, grenades, heals, etc)

I'm not familiar at all with the supers of the three characters in D2, you can essentially have one of each class.
Different characters were OP in PvP depending on what time you played and what the meta was. I.E., I deleted multiple characters at times last year to lvl up another hunter/warlock/titan depending on how the meta played.
During ROI there was a time where I had three titans and ran No Back Up Plans w/ a defender bubble along with No Land Beyond because it had no recoil from oncoming fire. The NBP's w/ force barrier added 100 HP, for 25 seconds and you could tank a head shot from the highest impact snipers.
It all just depends how the meta plays and if it's like Destiny 1, it will change constantly.
