In the NFL, if you didn't have preseason, coaches would treat the first four weeks as a "quasi-preseason", much like the NBA does before Christmas, etc.

Sure you might lose early on, but you can come back from that

The Alabama-Florida State opener will have more of an effect on the CFP. Lose that and neither team will have much margin of error the rest of the season
