I'll give Oliver credit, he's basically begged multiple industries to sue him. Even Penn and Teller danced around certain words to not get sued.

What news media isn't just opinion dressed as news these days?
Ratings and partisanship drive everything.
The sad thing is that there are people out there who value Jon Oliver's opinion on politics enough that he banks millions to share it.

As opposed to the folks who get their news from Infowars or Rush? I'm sure you'll draw no parallels.

Correct. They sound like that old guy who posts here. Zach.

It's pretty interesting how the right seems to characterize folks like Oliver as being know-it-alls. If you've watched more than 5 minutes of his show, you'd notice that his bits are overflowing with skepticism, caveats, doubt, and other signs that would indicate intelligent analysis. His openings have gotten tired, but the set pieces are well conceived.

The openings are just pathetic lately, and the set pieces have dropped off significantly this season. I call it frick Trump Tonight. Still good for a few laughs, but not nearly the same caliber as previous seasons. My wife thinks Trump sucks and she barely laughs at the show, too. So, there are at least some on the left that aren't sold on his shite.

Lol, you don't know shite about me.
But please continue getting your news from comedians on comedy central.

I don't know about brainwashing new converts, but there is something to the effect of the structure and cadence on the lib viewers. Libs watch it to feel superior to everybody else and this structure facilitates that feeling without any thought. Their world view is confirmed in their minds and they can feel mentally elite without the work.

It's not even comedy when the crowd reacts like this
When you watch these shows, rather than laughing, the crowd just cheers and claps. It isn't funny, it's group think and a leftist echo chamber.
When Oliver's show first started in 2014, I thought he was hilarious, and really enjoyed it. Not so much anymore.

Bingo.

Same with Stewart. He was funny and pretty fair for a while... I think the 2004 election was a turning point for that kind of show. They jumped off the Leftist cliff and have never come back to actual comedy. They are designed to make their audience cheer their mental congruency, not laugh.
