I would really like some help getting a job at a gas company in a refinery. I applied for fixed equipment inspector at the Salt Lake City refinery. I'm hoping that someone on this board works for them and can help me out anyway possible. I been an inspector for the last 7 years but it was always been with a contractor doing turnarounds and new contruction. I'm a CWI and will be taking my 510 soon. Thanks for any help or advise to get a job with them.

Are you stuck in Utah? Move to the gulf coast where there's a ton if work in that field.

I'm a client inspector at a fab shop here in utah. However I love it up here and would love to stay. If there is a job in a refinery then I will be happy to move.I will be laid off soon and thats why I'm asking for help.

That can be negotiable. It depends on the job and with who.

I had a buddy that moved from Lake Charles to Salt Lake City a month ago and works for Chevron there as an operator. Just put in your application. About all you can do

A job at a gas company in a refinery? You mean you want to work for a refinery? My "advice" is research all refineries, chemical, gas and specialty plants. Look at pipeline companies also.

I always apply to the plant jobs but never get interviewed. I have 8 years of experience in refineries, so I never understood why I get passed up. I worked with the operators, engineers, and plant inspectors...I know pretty much how everything works in a plant and yet probaly gets past up by someone kid out of high school. Its fustrating..

Probably the only downstream location I'd work at.

You need more certs. Go get your 570,510 and 653.
Get a 571 as well.
You at least have a chance with those.
Until then the chances are slim.

I do agree with you however they said in the job post that as long as you are a CWI and get an api cert within 1 year then you will be considered for the job. Yea I was surprised when I saw only CWI required.

Convert to Mormonism for the extra resume bump.
