I'm saying the parties didn't switch. There were like 21 southern democrat senators that voted against civil rights. Only one of them switched parties. The other 20 either continued to run as democrats or the people in their place ran as democrats. Republicans didn't even start really winning the south until the late 80s or 90s.

that's why they ran carter to begin with. baby boomers were making a big dent in their southern vote.
granny voted straight democrat local, state and federal from the time she could vote (40s) until she died about 10 years ago
the rebranding the democrats have done is so dishonest. strom Thurmond, George Wallace...these changes of heart were so convenient. strom Thurmond was still a senator when he died...for the democrats. he didn't change his mind on anything to do with policy just changed his mind on black people.
