Best climber

Had an old grand slam supreme climber which I liked, but was stolen out the back of my truck last year. Looking for a new one to purchase. Any suggestions?

Summit viper is a good choice but if you can swing a couple extra dollars I would get the Goliath and add a foot rest

What are you using it for? If it's something you're going to be walking in a long way, then weight should be prioritized over comfort. In that case, Summit Openshot, Summit Specialist (my recommendation), and Lone Wolf Hand Climber are all great options, weighing in around 15lbs.
Otherwise, the Summit Goliath is a king Kong climber from a comfort standpoint. Would be a great choice for a climber to leave in the same tree or if you'll only be carrying it in a short distance each time.

I like API's on hardwood trees because the chain doesn't slip like the Summit cable. On pine trees, I like the Summit because it's much quieter.

If you aren't a fan of open front climbers ::coughAlxcough::, Muddy "The Stalker" is a highly rated closed front climber that only weighs 15lbs too. And it only costs $200, which isn't bad.

This. Big difference between a stand you're gonna haul in once and leave there on private land vs a one you're packing in every time on public or where you think it may walk off.
Old man and summit make great stands that are easy to climb and comfortable but you pay for it in weight. I have my eye on a muddy stalker this year as it looks to be the lightest stand on the market that still offers a rail for climbing rather than hand bars.

I have an aluminum ol man I picked up on sale for about $150 last year. Lighter than the steel one I have and it has the adjustable foot rest/gun rest. I can kick back in that thing with the foot rest and it's fairly light and packs well. Can shoot a bow just fine out of it
The steel one I have has tubing right down the center of the bottom platform which digs into your back when you pack it

Their normal climbers, I agree. But both old man and summit offer lightweight climbers now. The summit open shot is one of the lightest climbers on the market.
ETA: I don't have the Muddy "The Stalker" climber but it looks fine and has good reviews. I'm sure it's not the most comfortable climber in the world, but a full closure, 15lb, sit and climb for under $200 is hard to pass up. It doesn't have any documented safety issues that I'm aware of and Muddy usually makes good gear. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I were in the market for one.
As it stands, I love my Summit Specialist. The open front on it is such a huge improvement in my opinion over the old steel gorilla (old man clone) I used to use. And at 16lbs I can walk in with it 1.5 miles with no issues.

Summit Viper
My first climber was an API one and I didn't really like it. Wasn't the easiest to setup and it was fairly heavy (30lbs). Bought the Viper last season. About 10 lbs lighter and a lot quicker and easier to setup and to backpack up when I'm done.
ETA: If you don't go with the Summit climber, at least look into the Summit stirrups they sell separate for like $25. So much easier to climb with those than the velcro foot straps.

I have a Timbertall Brute Lite climber.
It only weighs 12.5 lbs and it has a full front bar for climbing.
It also has a self leveling tension adjuster on both the top and the bottom for trees that get skinnier as you climb.
I added a Summit Surround Seat for extra comfort so that adds a pound or two maybe... Overall it is a great stand for the weight.

I guess I should have prefaced as closed front climbers. I haven't even considered the open fronts as they look like hard to climb death traps to me. I keep waiting for someone to bring up the catch on the stalker, as you said it's 200 bucks, 15 lbs, and closed front which no one else seems to offer. Beyond that it folds flat, has a wider seat which should make it more comfortable. I swear I don't sell this thing.

You and me both, for the price I can't find anything I don't like about it. Seems too good to be true.
