While no deal is close, circumstances are such that one phone call could create momentum rapidly, closer to Aug. 31 roster deadline. @MLB

I like it... the Astros have the division all but wrapped up, so let him throw a few more times for the Tigers, make sure his arm doesn't explode, then make the trade on the 30th or so and bring him over for the stretch run and the playoffs.

While I wouldn't expect Luhnow to publicly say there were any trade talks ongoing, it's probably telling that he's publicly downplaying the likelihood of any addition in what is surely a response to the Verlander stuff.
It's not happening.
