That won't matter. Higgins rails against Islam and did you know he's a Christian?
He'll win elections around here for years to come.

Colluding with a foreign power you know is committing felonious acts to hack into your opponent's campaign in order to win an election is a much bigger deal than Donna Brazile leaking questions.
If Obama's campaign manager was playing footsie with the Iranians while they were hacking Romney's emails and releasing them, you guys would be yelling treason at the top of your lungs. And rightfully so.

well we're getting off topic, but the timing of events really makes a difference
if information was hacked, Russia got it, and then gave it to Trump, that's not a huge deal. if Trump worked with Russia to hack the information, legit huge deal

quote:Yeah. That was my point, but there may be people that are involved in it that get arrested who we have never heard of and Trump had never heard of, but I was including them in case your parameters meant literally only those two.
tax evasion and dealings with Turkey essentially imply no association with Trump

it's more of a "people go down, but why they go down has no real association to Trump" hypothetical
like if the Whitewater investigation revealed Paul Begala was guilty of tax evasion in 1985-1988 and nothing bad related to Bill was ever found

wat
I hate to use the word "collusion" but I think everyone would agree that passes for it.
Going to jail for that could be another question.

it may be an FEC violation (not even certain it would be), but it's not really a story
the key to the juice of "muh Russians" is coordination of illegal acts. if the major illegality was already committed before Trump was involved, it loses its luster a great deal. just like there is an implicit assumption that there is a quid pro quo arrangement b/w Trump and Russia. if THAT doesn't exist, then the narrative loses a lot of teeth
it's like
coordination to hack with a quid pro quo is the peak/worst situation
as you strip away factors, the narrative gets worse and it gets better for Trump
all the way to "people associated with the campaign were found guilty for shite having nothing to do with Trump or the campaign" like the hypothetical in OP

Isn't Manafort also being investigated by the NY state attorney? I don't think a pardon can go that far

it's quite possible this did exist

well that's a legit reason why a pardon could not waive his 5A rights
dual sovereignty would come into play

quote:Although I think the Flynn situation could potentially be pretty politically damaging given the investigation began before Trump appointed him, the administration was aware of it, he was in a National Security position, and Trump wanted the investigation ended. Frankly, his involvement with Turkey, and the administration's disregard of it, seems far more disturbing than Russia dirt at this point.

You'd still have endless hearings and calls for impeachment if Trump used the info after the fact knowing it was obtained illegally.
Best thing in Trump's favor right now is the bench for the Democrats is absolutely empty. I'm to the point where I almost want them to start cranking the Joe Biden entrance music...

i thought one of the spin-stories from the Trump camp was that when this ordeal was revealed (and his lies to Flynn emerged), they fired Flynn
