I never understand why people interpret the approval of a single individual the same as the approval of an entire organization of people, especially when roughly half of that organization is comprised of individuals who share completely different views.

Besides only 1 House member and 2 Senators (and not even technically 1 House member if a resident of DC) completely represents and is accountable to any given person.

So for >99% of congress we are not supposed to be the TOP priority above all else, although we should still be a high priority nonetheless.

We are all President's constituents though.

It's always nice to see some balance and context when giving the approval rating for the POTUS, so congress needs to be part of the "big picture" approval rating of the D.C. Brothel.

Trump is facing unprecedented opposition that no other POTUS has faced and the opposition is coming from all facets of the "swamp" and the Enemedia. If he survives the next 18 months it can only mean one thing, the swamp is starting to drain and that's a victory for the American people and the POTUS.

Sure, and they are criticized heavily. HOWEVER, Congressional approval ratings represent something fundamentally different.

I mean I may disagree with a politician more than half the time. Based on that I should slightly disapprove. But maybe that person is likeable, or in the extremely rare case, honest and sincere. So I may actually approve afterall. So my view of single politician, is my view of a single politician.

Congress on the other hand, is an entity, with a large group who doesn't even pretend to share my views, and even a larger group of where my interests are supposed to be somewhere below a 300+ million other people.

And when congress doesn't get something done we don't like, by even one vote, and use only 1 out of 50 of our own party, then we don't remember the other 49, we remember that 1 vote. Just look at healthcare, for people who wanted it to pass, they don't care that or even remember the other 49 who supported they care about the 3, or even 1, who didn't. Those other 49 supported it just like Trump, and they have votes to prove it, and unlike Trump, they largely weren't elected to lead the party and nation. But they get included and Trump doesn't.

And even then, the outcome was probably ideal for the Ds, but they still don't approve of congress because they would prefer even more of their views.

It's just not the same thing.

O and Nixon's approval rating, up to the very end, was still at 27%. It should have been at about as close to 0 as possible, but somehow a single person can still have a not insignificant support.

Hillary Clinton would have higher approval rating than congress.

So it is clearly a fundamentally different comparison.
