Don't think crab island. It's about 2-3' deep and you'll want to stay a couple hundred yards off the shoreline.
You can see the bottom on a great day, but don't expect it. It's mostly Sandy and a little muddy. Still a great place to waste a day. Just look for the other boats.

Any beaches that are accessible by water where the kids can get out and play for a little while? It doesn't have to be just the Maurepas area

we had one hell of a volleyball game going out at the north sandbar (mouth of tickfaw) several weeks back. Kids where plentiful.
