Car accident questions- hit and run

Hi y'all, a driver hit me and ran a few months ago. I called the cops and they tracked down the company of the driver. The company had to bring the driver and the vehicle to the police station.
Their hr rep had asked me to go get an estimate for my car and they will pay me instead of going through insurance. My insurance company advised against that bc of the rental vehicle.
Anyways, I was pretty busy and it's been about 2-1/2 months since. I am going to get an estimate tomorrow.
My questions are:
1. If the guy doesn't respond, I can just go to the police station and ask them to pull the report? It would have their insurance on it?
2. How do I calculate the rental on this? Sometimes your car takes longer. It's just a side scrap down the right side of my back passenger door towards the part over the back tire.
3. What would you do?
I know I procrastinated on this for a while. :/
Thanks!

Screw them. They caused all this trouble. Let their insurance co. pay for it and make them pay for a rental while yours is in the shop. The name of the ins. co. should be on the police report. Hopefully you were not hurt, but even if you don't have a personal injury claim, they will pay you a little extra just to sign a PI waiver.

Most insurance companies pay a set price for a set duration but you should file through the at fault insurance company then they really don't have a choice but to keep you in a rental until you are complete with the repair.

Thanks.
The hr guy asked me to just let them pay for it out of pocket, should I consider this at all?

what does it matter who pays you, as long as you are compensated?
the problem here is that they are NOT paying you. If I were you, I'd get the report and file a claim today.
*** this is not legal advice.

I personally wouldn't. Theyre trying to control as much as they can. Don't let them, just file with their insurance and be done with them if you aren't hurt.

these some shady shits
Get them to pay you in cash for your full repair cost
Then file the claim with their carrier. Get paid twice.
