, my SIL sells auto insurance for several companies and straight up told me it's they thh states insurance commissioner is in bed with insurance companies and that for the most part uninsured motorist is a joke but a ton of people that don't understand it think they HAVE to absolutely have it although they aren't getting really any extra coverage anywhere if they have adequate health insurance...

People in Louisiana have newer cars on average which have higher repair costs due to technological changes which are expensive. All those floods wipe out cars every year hence once of the major contributors is new car purchases.

Ask your sister in law this: Little old lady rear ends you hard at a stop light. You have a ruptured disc in your low back and a torn rotator cuff. You have 60k in surgeries and a lifetime of pain in your low back. and your shoulder is never the same again.

Little old lady has state minimum limits of 15k in insurance.

What happens next if you have no UM?

so its the commissioner's fault cause he's in bed with the auto (very few by the way) insurance companies? How so might i ask? And the insurance commissioner regulates the auto industry can only file rate increase filings once a year by the way (which is a deterrent to companies who want to file rate increases at will when needed). Your sister sounds like an idiot and probably works for a bucket shop a-hole agency.
