Always and advantage having a game in hand.

For sure. No arguments about that at all.

We play a lot of big schools in early games like Wisconsin and Oregon. It would suck to lose one of those because the other team got an extra game in. The clause should just be a standard entry in all the contracts. It would prevent issues like the previously mentioned game with Va Tech.

...I'm not all that worried about BYU.

I just disagree with you man. Monetary penalties don't belong in an "amateur" sport when it comes to a schedule. I ain't worried about BYU either.

You seriously don't get how much money there is in this 'amateur' sport? Sure the kids don't get dollars in dollar form, but it's a big buck system no less. That's why millions of dollars are given to the cupcake teams we play so we can put them on the schedule. It's not at all outside the realm to put stipulations and fines on a game contract.

To OP's question, I think advantage is always to the team who started their season a week ahead. Maybe we should do the same just to work the kinks out ourselves.
