I choose to believe the more logical scenario in which he/she had deep mental/security issues before, during and after service.

You've never met a single person that saw combat? It affects all of them mentally to some degree and in some cases it completely fricks up their head.

I never stated my opinion on the matter. I only said his own assertions are hardly proof of anything, as you claimed.
