the charger is super fast when using the samsung brick (under 30 minutes for a full charge)....but on my way home from work when using the usb port from my vehicle, it might go up 4% in an hour long ride home. seems really bad.

Probably more as a result of low amperage from the car than an issue with the phone.

Oh yea I never use that to charge my phone.....it was bad with my Nexus 6p...it is basically only enough to keep it turned on not really charge it. Now my wife's car actually does charge her iphone somewhat but I've never tried my phone in there before.
Get on Amazon and find you a decent USB-C car charger and it will work great.
