"Behind every great man...

is an even greater woman."
Why must we do this? Why is this necessary?
I'm watching a history show covering the US Presidents and their lives, achievements, challenges, etc. At one point after discussing Ronald Reagan, the narrator decides to segue into discussing the First Ladies beginning with Nancy Reagan... that segue goes like this: "Behind every great man is an even greater woman."
Why must we do this? I love women. I think they're fantastic. My mom is a woman and I love my mom. But why must we assign credit to women for the accomplishments of great men such as Ronald Reagan? By all accounts, Nancy Reagan was an incredible woman, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Ronald would have done just fine had he been a single, unmarried man focusing on his job.

I tend to agree with this kind of thinking as well. You never hear about great woman and their husbands.

It's just a way of making the weaker link in a relationship feel important.

I agree this proping up pussy on a pedestal is over done but I couldn't have the all around successful life that I have without my woman.

I'm not sure how having a wife or companion makes the argument that behind every great man is an even greater woman.
That said, Alexander the Great comes to mind. Genghis Khan had thousands of whores... maybe one of them was "great."

in the case of Nancy, she did a lot to clean up RR's image and was quite the image maker, and a master of choreography with regards to what was presented to the public, also had the reputation of being a five star bitch herself, and the village bicycle of Hollywood before she and Ronnie hooked up, for a number of years Ronnie was an obnoxious drunk and kind of considered the Trillhog of Hollywood showbiz circles

You're on quite a roll yourself. Don't sell yourself short. I've got my eye on these cubsfan5150 gems.
Your work doesn't go unnoticed.

Have you ever been romantically/ emotionally invested in someone great? Do you know what kind of sacrifices and strength come witht that detail? Perhaps it's not so easy. Perhaps the great men are giving a nod to their great women with that phrase. Only one way to know I suppose

I think the better question is why people don't also say "behind every great woman is an even greater man."
Rosa Parks had a husband. Where's his credit?
Oprah wouldn't be shite without Stedman.
