At what point is a clear car wrap worth it?

A friend is getting a new Panamera Turbo and instead of taking delivery he's having a clear wrap applied to the exterior. I know Ferrari offers it from the factory.
I'm not sure of the upkeep, but I doubt you have to polish or wax or really anything to keep it fresh, and I don't know how well they age. I guess if you can afford $150k+ car a few grand every two years is nothing, so I just assume they have the aging portions reapplied.
What about us normal folk? Is there a price point cutoff where a few thousand dollar wrap would be worth the expense? 40, 50, $60k?
If you were getting a new, say $50k vehicle would you consider getting a clear wrap to protect the paint?

So, how many spaces do you take when you park?

My truck has full redneck pinstripes, a dented tailgate, some tree damage from trail riding, and I don't think I've washed it 5 times in the 4 years I've had it.
Talking about a new car for the wife. Seems like it would prevent all sorts of BS, and she could take it through any car wash without damaging the paint.

Wife will damage car no matter what you do and blame it on someone else. Fact!

I punched the tailgate of my truck a month ago. Would a clear wrap keep it from denting after I throw a heavy right haymaker at it?

Oh I know. I'm getting her hand me down car and it'll take me years to get it back in shape.

It prevents minor dents. Is your haymaker minor?

Most paint damage I get is from rocks and other flung stuff which clear wraps don't do shite.
So my price point is $0.

I doubt they'd sell them if they didn't prevent rock chips from normal road wear. That's...the point.

Check out Ceramic Coatings (something like Opti Coat) before the clear wrap. I have not done either but a buddy did the Ceramic Coat 1.5 years ago and his car still looks great.

I clay and wax mine early spring, and pay to have it clayed/waxed in the late summer. It's not factory new but it still looks damn good.

How else would you say that?
What is the threshold at which the expense of the car is worth protecting with a $3k wrap?

The dealer installed a clear film on mine on the parts that collect rocks and scratches (leading edge of hood, front grill area, rocker panels, behind door handles, etc.).
My prior car looked sandblasted on the front of the hood due to all the rock pecks, and I've seen others of the same model with scratches under the door handle caused by fingernails.
It's been a year with this one, and it is doing fine so far. I didn't have to pay for it because we had agreed on price before a tech accidentally installed it, so I'm not sure what it costs. Likely comparable to window tint.

I'd think the vinyl is more expensive than tint, and labor probably goes up a bunch when you get into more complex shaped panels on the vehicles.

I actually have been looking into getting this done. Do you know how much your friend paid?

The previous i.e. RTC had the same installed on my car. The spots that generally take damage or scrapes are all perfect under the vinyl.
