I certainly think some people have the ability to sense things or pick up things that others cannot. I've yet to figure out the mechanism

Neither I
From my readings, I think it is more about letting go (instead of “doing”)
If we are using the “brain as a reciever” model, everyday life keeps most people in the default mode network of the brain (mindless)
“Mystical” experience tend to occur in solitude/isolation. Prayer and mindfulness practices help.
Some feel that we get to figure it all out when the brain goes completely offline (near death experiences/death itself). This also bleeds into the strange experience that is sleep.
In short, we are surrounded by ways to “connect” in a secular world that is becoming more “disconnected” (despite our electronic relationships)

I think a lot of it has to do with empathy as well as dropping biases. I think hallucinogenics work well because they create a more blank slate allowing us to see without filters

The military maintained a remote viewing program for years.
If you listened to Art Bell, you'd know this.

Pineal gland is wrecked by mostly fluoride in water. That is supposedly your god connection or whatever you want to call it. Says like half of the people in the US have heavily calcified pineal glands before they are 18.

I believe we have a 6th sense and I think some of us are open to it, like ninjas
Whenever I am doing yardwork, either weedeating or cutting grass, I will sense somebody looking at me or a presence in the area. I will immediately look in the correct direction and see someone walking up the sidewalk or street. The weird thing is, they are usually 100 yds away. It creeps out me every time it happens but I appreciate it in the sense of sensory perception.

If You’ve Met Aliens While on DMT, These Scientists Would Like to Hear From You
Some people on DMT say they meet aliens, demons, and even elves. It’s a common enough experience that Johns Hopkins wants to know more
quote:
The prestigious medical university at Johns Hopkins wants to know if you’ve ever taken so much dimethyltryptamine (DMT) that you’ve broken through reality and met the benevolent machine elves that live in the center of the universe. Researcher Roland R. Griffiths is the neuroscientist in charge of the study and he’s been on the forefront of scientific research into psychedelic experiences for decades.
Participating in the study is anonymous and as easy as following this link and filling out a survey. Specifically, the researchers are interested in, “The experiences of people who have had encounters with seemingly autonomous beings or entities after taking DM
quote:
Some people who ingest DMT—the hallucinogenic ingredient of Ayahuasca—describing breaking through reality and meeting with creatures on the other side. Some describe them as angels, demons, and even elves. It’s a common enough experience that Griffiths and Johns Hopkins want to know more.
“Have you ever taken a ‘breakthrough’ dose of N,N-DMT; that is, a dose that produced very strong psychoactive effects” The survey asks. “By ‘breakthrough’ we mean the experience of passing through an entrance into another world or alternative reality.”
Roland R. Griffiths is a big part of this book:
