sincerely believes that the People of the Middle East crave human freedom, religious pluralism and Democracy? Because , as astounding as that sounds,
Look - I actually believed that any human being would desire those concepts if given a chance to enjoy their benefits for some period of time.
Now I think that it would take a full generation or two of total immersion in 'western civilization' ideals for it to take hold. And I know of no way to accomplish that.
It is a real problem for me to consider - I know it would be better for mankind to depose the current Islamist mindset by force and replace it with a modern civilization, but the cost would be inexorably high.
Leaving the cancer to spread is just as bad for the long term. And probably result in many more deaths in the end.
Just what is the solution?
hope for the best?

The only way I know that it has to occur through internal revolution with a desire for liberty. The difference between us and probably all nations is that we do not believe that when you are born you are a subject of the state. It started with the American Revolution. It was refined though the American Civil War. It got tweaked though the Civil Rights Movement and MLK. The road to freedom is long, bloody and you never really get there. The path to freedom is an asymptote. You just have to continue to fight to stay as close to that goal as possible.

In the case of Islam there is only one solution. Bottom up Revolution and societal reform. There is no form of Government that can be imposed on Islam from The West.It has to be a Cultural Reformation from the bottom up, an organic movement. And that's not happening anytime soon.
