Mississippi state undergrad and LSU grad school alum here. I think you will find MSU fans in Starkville very similar to LSU fans in terms of family atmosphere and a very inviting fan base. Definitely set up a tailgate tent on Friday afternoon near or in the junction if you want a spot near the action. If you were looking for more room to spread out, but your tents behind Dorman. Eat in the Cotton District at Bin 612 or Staggerin's. City Bagel/Starkville Cafe for breakfast Saturday or Sunday morning. Hotels or tricky at this point. Most of the hotels are a two night minimum and cost a good bit. Check out west point if all else fails. It is a little closer than Columbus. Also, Saturday night is bulldog Bash in the cotton district. It is a huge outdoor free concert that is crowded, but lots of fun. Bring an ice chest full of beer and you will have a blast and have something to stand on. Let me know if you have any questions. I always get excited about this game for obvious reasons. Hail State and Geaux Tigers!

When planning for Mississippi State, it all starts with the quarterback, Fitzgerald. You have to contain him and keep him from hurting you with his legs while also putting pressure on him.

Buuuuut their students can throw empty fifths of jack on the field and no repercussions. Sounds fair.

Life's not fair. If you follow the law and just get wasted tailgating prior to going in you'd have no problems. I never feel sorry for someone who gets in trouble and says but they were doing it too.

I agree. I follow the rules. Just hypocritical that my buddy got frisked for an airplane bottle of booze and threatened yet the ole miss student section hit a cheerleader with an empty fifth of jack with no repercussions.

I guess it works out at tiger stadium?

Idk, I'm just guessing that the trip will suck besides the game, being in mississippi and all. Everything sucks in mississippi dude, seriously, that's not an exaggeration...well besides the gulf Coast which is alot like louisiana.

Starkville is surprisingly a Great little road trip.

I've been twice in 2005 and 2007 I believe and had a great experience both times.

Little Dewey was good from what I recall.

Some bar downtown (mugshots maybe) had a second floor with a perilous staircase up to a great live band atmosphere. But those stairs man...witnessed at least three different people slide down them.

Been several times and always stayed in Philadelphia at the casino. Had a blast... played golf, good food and drove the 1 hour plus to Starkville.

Sadly, Mugshots stopped being a real bar passed dark. There is another bar across the street with a balcony that's pretty fun. Starkville can actually be a fun trip for LSU fans.

This is where my brother and SIL worked the 4-5 years they were in school, and yes, those stairs are shitty. I haven't been to Starkville in 5-6 years since they left and most of my friends have graduated, but I think Mugs moved to more of a restaurant than a bar that serves food. Someone that's been there recently can tell you better, though.

I actually enjoyed my trips to Starkvegas, but it did help having a lot of people I grew up with living there. For the most part, they're nothing like Ole Miss douches, although there are exceptions. Their fans recognize their place in the SEC, and for the most part don't act like they're better than they are(looking at you Ole Miss). If you like traveling to watch the Tigers play, and want to enjoy the experience, Starkville is not as bad as it might seem from the outside.
