All you're saying is that a top heavy league is better in your opinion than a league that's good 1-6.
Madking, That sentence gets to the crux of the matter. Imagine this: if the West had six 0.500 teams, and you added a half dozen NFL players to two of the teams, the league's records would spread out. The four other teams would have worse records, and the lucky two would probably have one loss between them.
Alternatively, if you took that same balanced league and removed a half dozen good players from two teams the league's records would also spread out.
In the first example, the league would clearly be stronger, but in the second it's clearly weaker.
It appears to me that the first example more closely resembles what actually happened. The SEC became the premiere league, and the talent flocked in - even to Ole Miss, for goodness sake.
If neither example is reflective, then I would say that a team fighting for championships would rather face a league with parity than one with a couple of great teams, but an average team would rather face a balanced league in which it would stand a fighting chance of winning out.
Anyway, good point above.

Yes it has happened to an extent. The Bama effect has done more to change the division than anything els. If you look when I first posted the stats you'll see that Miles first 5 seasons at LSU the SEC west was under .500 as a whole then Saban went to Bama and raised the league up to over the .500 mark. Then The addition of Texas A&M raised it up some more to where it is now. The other major difference in the two eras is that the bottom teams tend to be completely non competitive in this era compared to Sabans era. Besides Crooms early years at State every game in the West was a dogfight back then.
