Unions aren't flourishing because they have no reason to exist anymore. They did their job. Now it's just a matter of enriching the union bosses.

Well that's not true. Nissan likely does pay well and provides adequate benefits to its employees. For those workers, there probably isn't a huge benefit to unionizing. But anytime one of these auto plants opens up, a bunch of parts factories also open, and those places have a spotty record of safety, adequate pay, benefits, etc. And these parts suppliers aren't going to unionize until the big plant does.
This is on the Alabama auto industry, and likely isn't much different than the Mississippi one.
