So why doesn't everybody go on government assistance? You don't work, the car doesn't get repoed right away, free food and phone...

I always laugh at the ones, who use their ebt to buy prawns, crab legs, steaks,etc.

A combination of both.
Having positive role models as a kid shows you that working hard can take you where you want to be in life.
Plus, the sense of pride knowing that you did it yourself. That whole self respect thing can go a long way.
Hell, I don't want to have to have a job, but I also enjoy having things, going places and (most importantly) having money to do what I want.
