You totally miss the point of my comments. Macklin was the anchor upon which Dale was able to transform a moribund program into a national power. This led to a 15 year span in which LSU made 13 tournament appearances , two Final Fours and multiple SEC titles. That era included Shaq, Chris Jackson, John Williams, Howard Carter,, Ice Reynolds, ad other high profile recruits. Without Macklin Dale may not have have lasted at LSU much longer and those successes may not have occurred. Hopefully, Smart can have the same effect on jump starting the program, attracting recruits and developing a consistent pattern of success.
