See that doesn't happen with Aesop or even the Tao Te Ching. If something is a Fable for the sake of moral learning, it's usually clear what the point is. The bible (especially the old testament) is just schizophrenic in its messages. Which is what makes me think it's supposed to be more historical than allegorical.

Maybe you are right. Maybe trying to shoehorn a lesson into what is simply being presented as fact is the wrong way of looking at it.
