What? That's ridiculous. John Elway was considered an all timer long before he won those two Superbowls. They added to his resume of course, but much like his contemporary Marino, everyone already knew they were all time great quarterbacks whether they won the title or not. To say that was the "sole" reason is absurd.

Didn't win a Super Bowl until the late 90's
The NFL named him the 1st team all-90's QB
Favre 2nd team
Elway is underrated because of numbers in the 1st 10 years of his career. . .when he was basically twilling the team to victory. He didn't have the team you guys remember, until the late 90's.
Young never had a season, when he didn't have an all-star team on offense.
