Hmm... Nebraska - OU had some legendary clashes. Michigan - OSU as well. The Notre Dame - Miami "Catholics vs. Convicts" was big. What's your point?

Glad to see negatiger still means realist. HERE COMES DA POSITIGAHS

As head football coach at LSU O is 1-0. Gonna be glorious.

In the coaching gutter. So O was fired for a guy who was better than him who isn't coaching anymore. That's how bad O is.

Pretty soon someone will be here to tell you that you actually want O and LSU to fail
Posted on 6/29/17 at 8:35 am to lsu2006
Michigan State and Notre Dame is the point. MSU is not and has never been a bad football school. Saban did not save MSU. He was given a chance and made good which allowed him to move on to better things. That would be LSU.

No. Not humiliated at all. Orgeron was Assistant Head Coach at USC for 6 years. I am sure you will make light of that because it suits your agenda. By the way Dave Aranda carries Assistant Head Coach title I believe.
I believe Aranda has the title so we can pay him more, which is probably the reason O had it USC. Unlike O, Aranda has been a DC at multiple places and a proven record of success.

Its like an endless loop of 2005-15 again

So now you're comparing a joke of a head coach to possibly the best DC in the country. Lol

Catch the Wisconsin game?
I'm relatively confident that we're recruiting talent and that many if not most of these guys will bump their ratings before it's done, but no doubt LSU should be pulling in a top ten class every year, even with the diamond in the rough players we seem to find on a regular basis. If not, it would be disappointing considering our recent history and having two of the best coordinators in the country.

Michigan State and Notre Dame played the most famous football game ever? I know they have a long rivalry and had a famous clash in the 60's
Posted on 6/29/17 at 8:40 am to irnfan
Aranda was with us when we lost to Wisconsin last year.

The 10-10 tie is heralded as one of the all time best football games ever played. Just trying to tell you that MSU was not some below mediocrity program that Saban rebuilt. From what is being said even if LSU is successful under Coach Orgeron it will not be because of him. Have fun watching LSU win.
I am an old fart.

You're right. They were worse than mediocre. They hadn't had a winning season since 1990 and were on NCAA probation when he took over.

Big deal. If O is not a winner, we will shite can him too. Give me a roll of the dice over another decade of Les Miles ball any day.

The problem is the dice we rolled are heavily weighted for snake eyes

If you blame him for Ole Miss then credit him for his work at Miami, USC and helping LSU salvage last season after that team was ready to tank it. That is a fact.
There's a massive difference between Ole Miss and the other schools you list .... Ole Miss was HIS program. He was permanent HC there, not interim.
It's not fair to equate an interim HC job with permanent. As an interim, you're using the previous coach's staff, players, system, etc. The main job of an interim is to emotionally keep the team intact. And I'll be the first to admit that O did a great job as interim, both at USC and LSU.
But it's far, far different. As the permanent HC, it's all on you - you have final word on hiring/firing staff, recruiting, schemes, game-planning, all of it.
Now I'll admit that I thought the O hire was horrible, but he's now our HC and has done a good job thus far, so I'm giving him a shot.
But you just can't equate a massive failure as permanent HC with success as an interim. It's apples and oranges.

quote:Yes, he had a terrible record at Ole Miss, but even Ed said he made mistakes back then including micromanaging his coordinators. Stewardship is one of the hardest things to learn as a leader.
I love Ed as a person but his tenure at ole miss was a complete disaster. Really no reason to think he's even a decent head coach at this point
I agree that the jury is out on Ed O at this point. He now not only has a huge opportunity to redeem his Ole Miss record but also lot to prove. Now that he's in charge of a top notch program with every facet to be successful including two excellent coordinators, there will be no excuse for him if he fails again. Let's hope the leap of faith pays off for tiger nation.

I completely disagree. Right now, O has the best media PR and pull with the decision makers of any coach in college football. It's what got him the job in the first place.
I think he could lose 6+ games for 3 years straight and they'd be making excuses to keep him.

Not so, if LSU loses 6 games this year or any year he would be gone and that is fact.
