One of the kids went to rehab and confessed to a lot of fake things in the show. The dad used to live like that by choice a few months of the year it sounds like. He wrote a book about it and now they all pretend to do it.

It's 100% confirmed pure fake.
All reality shows bend the truth, some pretty heavily.
Few just completely dismiss with the truth altogether like Alaskan Bush People.
They don't live in Brown Town and never have. It's also not remote. There's a pizza place right through the woods. They're not Alaskans. They didn't live that life before the show. The aren't computer and pop culture illiterate. In fact, a few of them used to be prolific YouTube vloggers. They don't even stay out there while filming. They live in a lodge during filming season. The dad wrote a book based on his vacations where he fantasized about the life the show depicts and the show is a fictional film version (not documentary) of his daydream.
