That's a fair point. I guess I find it hard to believe that a kid or his coach would claim an offer from a school that isn't even showing interest.
I completely agree that some (maybe a lot) claim offers from a school that is just showing interest but hasn't offered anything. I just don't think a kid would say that he has offers from half the SEC if he's not at least being courted in some fashion by the coaches at those schools. Which is why I think the offer list is really just an "interest list" at this point.
I could just be being naive and all these kids could be making up whatever they want and the recruiting sites just publish it without fact checking anything. Idk that's just how I look at the offer lists.

Doesn't have to be intentional.
Kids, parents, coaches sometimes hear comments, rumors, hearsay and innocently believe what they want to believe.
And, on occasion I suspect there is deliberate misinformation.
