That is true. Another program would have to rise to the top. You can only have so many players in each conference given the talent available. Right now, UM, OSU, WISC, and MICH ST occupy all the big name guys. Penn St has been down but they're recovering pretty well considering the mess they made. Nebraska or Iowa needed to fill that void and didn't.

Nebraska views themselves like how Alabama views themselves so they will keep on bringing in coaches until they can compete even if it takes a 100 of them

Mike Riley???? His first go around with Oregon State was great. He should get credit for their Fiesta Bowl blowout of ND but he had already went to the NFL
Problem is for Riley is that when he returned USC was back and Oregon was on their verge of becoming a big time program. Luckily for him UW was down so he was able to survive but he saw the future of Oregon St and made the best decision
It just depends on how long Nebraska gives him.

Riley should have went to USC in 98. I do not know why he didn't. That would mean Carroll wouldn't have been there but I believe Riley would have won a national championship there and might be still coaching at USC. After all he is a Trojan

Anderson just beat Oregon

They just had their best recruiting class since 2013 too. Riley had quit on the recruiting trail.

The Beavers' fan base is excited about the team's direction for the first time in a long time.

Riley isn't a bad coach, he's just been around for awhile. He mismanages games and has a hard time committing to players.

Who didn't beat Oregon last year
Cal just fired Dykes. I know it was a cultural thing and the people in the Bay were mad that he was interested in Baylor but on the field Dykes was doing a way better job than Andersen

If he didn't go to the SD Chargers I think it would have been much better for him. Living in Southern California Riley was always one of the names that came up every time SC had an opening. Riley's problem was the type of players he could recruit.
He could recruit the PNW on an even playing field with Oregon in the 90's as they were all behind UW but when he returned Oregon was considered a much better program.
Riley and OSU had to rely on California cast offs that none of the California PAC 12 schools wanted.
Sometimes you hit on those players like a Chad Johnson and Matt Moore and sometimes you do not

Except for Wisconsin.
Then you have Iowa who is good a lot of the time.

Nebraska is behind both programs. I can see them moving ahead of Iowa on a consistent basis but Wisconsin even with their issues paying assistant coaches still is one of those BIG schools that is Top 15 almost every year.

Plus, Mr. Fleck is in the mix now in a great city that has every reason to make a push in the west.

The answer remains C, at least for the next 10-15 years.

Minnesota has been on the verge a few times.
Glen Mason had them decent in the early 2000's.
Now with their new stadium and the school wanting a winner I wouldn't be surprise.
There are a few sleeping Giants in the BIG. Illinois is another one in the West.

With Minnesota I think they went to a Rose Bowl
in the 80's but since following college football since 1991 I have seen pretty much every BIG school out here except them and Indiana

I agree with you, only you're banking on Riley to be Riley from his first go around when he was a hot name, and I'm going with the "what have you done for me lately" approach.

We'll see how he follows up last season's success.

Plus that map is percentages as well
So a County with 2 million people might only have 100,000 African Americans and come up yellow while a County with 89,000 might only have 20,000 African Americans and come up darker

Still doesn't make much of a difference. The population is much denser on the east coast and still have he higher numbers in many cases

Population wise Nebraska is number 36 out of the 50 states plus DC according to the 2010 census with a little over 82,000 African Americans
1) Georgia
2) New York
3) Florida
4) Texas
5) California
6) North Carolina
7) Illinois
8) Maryland
9) Virginia
10) Louisiana

A little bit of correlation but if you look at the states that produced the most blue chip college football players in 2013 to 2017
Texas
Florida
California
Georgia
Ohio
Louisiana
Alabama
Virgina
Pennsylvania
New Jersey

Maybe if you include basketball players NY, Illinois, North Carolina and Maryland would be included

A slight correlation by African American population and blue chip talent

Nebraska produced 2 blue chip players during this time

Not saying he didn't but USC has this belief that once you are a Trojan you are always a Trojan even if you graduated from another university.
SC alumni take care of their own but they will take care of anyone that ever played even without earning a degree and anyone who coached for them
That was why what Steve Sarkisian did to them was so shocking plus Lane Kiffin. These guys were given a chance by SC and they turned their back on the Trojan Family.

To prove this I have a story about a former SC linemen who started the 1996 Rose Bowl for the Trojans he fell on hard times and started to use narcotics. The guy was pretty much homeless but people from the SC alumni group here in California got the guy into rehab, gave him a job and paid for his rent for 6 months after he left rehab. Supposedly even John Robinson visited him at his homeless camp.

Unless the NCAA brings back county scholarships and partial qualifiers.
