I was listening to Bloomberg this morning and they were saying that Tom Price basically ran unopposed in November. The Democrat on the ballot was just a name. He LITERALLY raised $0 for his campaign. Ossoff raised $25mm. Price was also a six-time incumbent.
This is true of a lot of these special elections. The GOP members leaving office are long term, high ranking party members. They are being replaced by lesser known candidates and their replacements are facing everything the Dems can throw at them.
If anything, these losses might prove that the Dems can never flip these districts. The conditions will never be more favorable than they are now.
ETA: Maddow is racist, spreading that blacks don't vote in the rain stereotype.

Plus these are individual races getting national attention.
During midterms money gets more spread out and most races get NK attention beyond local areas

It's common knowledge in Louisiana that black vote turnout suffers on rainy election days.
