It can never be too soon IMO. Getting some sprayed now will mean you have to spray less later on. It's much easier to make more trips to spray than trying to make one or two trips to get everything sprayed.

hasn't been sprayed in about 5-6 years and the marsh grass, bull whips, etc have started to take over many of the ponds/open water. We will probably have to spray from a plane to knock most of it out instead of spraying ourselves from boats.
