It was relatively average for 1962, lot better than I can argue for the 78 Steelers who played the 2nd weakest SOS that year with more teams and games.

No you don't, even when the other factors overwhelming favored another team you dismissed them due to SOS. Sos is a good guide but still has flaws, which you refuse to acknowledge.

I would put that 1st SB team in 1966 over the 1962 team
Now you're talking! That's what I was attempting to generate with the 91 Redskins thread, teams such as that that are overlooked but were truly great. I think that 66 Packers was a truly great team and played a tough schedule that season, they earned a 12 pt MOV and lost only 2 games by a total of 4 pts. What prevents me from ranking them ahead of 1962(it was a tough decision) was they didn't dominate the NFL to the massive extent that the 62 Pack did: this was a Pack team with a 36:4 rush TD ratio, an extremely lopsided per-game point differential, and a 342-234 YPG ratio with 3 shutouts against an average SOS that inarguably wasn't weak.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

You have been hung up on the Redskins and the Tar Heels...now it's the 1962 Packers?
Is this just...whichever team I like, I'm going to make a post about them being GOAT to make me sleep better?

I think this is it..... you nailed it and heaven forbid anyone bring up a team that will go against his argument.....

Duh.....the Dolphins. That whole division besides them sucked in the 1970's except for a few decent years from the Colts.

1973 Miami Dolphins, 15-2 SB champs, dominant in both defense and offense, obliterated their playoff competition by a MOV of 18 the absolute pinnacle of those Dolphins teams

1976 Oakland's the best NFL team of the 70s

One of these does not belong.

I agree. The 1973 Dolphins were better than the 1972 Dolphins.....

1976 Taiders are one of my favorite NFL teams of all time... but they were not as good as the 1978 Steelers...... they took advantadge if a lucky call against NE in the divisional round and got to play Pittsburgh without out Harris and Blier.....

1970's Raiders were the FSU or Atlanta Braves of the 90's.
From 1970 to 1977, the Raiders won six division titles and reached the AFC Championship Game six times.
1 Super Bowl win.
Damn Steelers and Dolphins. AFC was stacked, NFC sucked.
Total reversal in the 80's - when the NFC became stacked.

The 1972 Dolphins played an absurdly easy schedule, -4.27, only 2 winning teams(both 8-6), easily the weakest in football by a margin of 1.7. By contrast the 1973 Dolphins played a rather average SOS and still was clowning fools and dominating top 10 offense, top 3 defense-best pass D.

I wouldn't say the NFC sucked in the 70's... Dallas, Minnesota and the Rams were real good in the 70's. Just not as good as the Raiders, Steelers, or Dolphins.....
Posted on 6/19/17 at 4:54 pm to dukke v
Dallas was more competitive in the lat 70's.
But the fact that Minnesota kept making Super Bowl after Super Bowl and then getting steam-rolled by an AFC team is sort of an indictment that the path to the Super Bowl in the NFC was a lot easier.

All that matters is the W though, can't recontextualize with hypotheticals and facts remain the 76 Raiders played a top 12 SOS whereas the 78 Steelers played the 2nd weakest SOS in football and still lost more games than the 76 Raiders.

Ok I will say this once about SOS... it's not the Dolphins fault the teams they beat ended up sucking.... just like the 1978 Steelers, or the 1995 Nebraska cornhuskers.... they beat who they played... example:::: in 2003 LSU played Arizona AT Arizona and crushed them 56-13. But they put Zona on the schedule back in like 1997 after they went 11-1.... think about it.
