So turning off your vehicle so it won't explode when you pump some gas.....

That's a bullshite myth right?
Lately I've seen other people fill up their rides while leaving it running with no problem at all and it led me to wonder.
Gonna try this next time I fill up. Gonna suck real bad if I explode though. :(

Been leaving mine run for as long as I can remember. No explosions to date.

Same with smoking at the pump.

I use my cell while fueling up

If your car is less than 10 years old and in decent shape, you should be fine.

I think it's bull shite. I think it's one of those things that people set the safety point beyond where it needs to be at the pump just because they know people will cross the line wherever they set it, and they don't want people to do the actually stupid things and the risk is so much if they do.

I don't ever turn mine off.

I think that if no spark occurs in your electrical system while pumping, you're probably fine.

Mythbusters believe busted that myth a long time ago same with smoking by pump..

The risk is that static electricity could ignite gas fumes, but:
1. Living in Louisiana, static electricity isn't a part of everyday life
2. Discharging static electricity would be an issue whether the car is running or not, since hypothetically the fumes ignited at the pump nozzle could/would ignite the flow of gas into the tank and I don't think having the engine running makes any difference to this supposed threat
3. Even if that scenario is at all plausible, discharging the static by touching the car body or something prior to pumping gas would make a difference whereas the engine running IMO would not
ETA: The more plausible reason to not leave your car running while pumping gas is the risk due to the car slipping out of park for some reason, which is unlikely but possible.

Is the cell phone theory a myth too?

I can't say that I've ever see someone's car running while they were pumping gas.

All static baw. Ground yourself and keep it running. You'll be fine

Why even take a chance?
God forbid you have to turn your AC off for 3 minutes.

it probably is but it's one of those things that isn't a big deal to me to turn it off and turn it back on so why risk it?
