Interesting. I just have major doubts about the DCEU, so I need people like y'all to tell me that this isn't some Zack Snyder turd. I know he didn't direct this, but he helped write and produced it so my shitty movie antennae are up.

ETA: also hilarious that I have a downvote for asking the question.

If you were unfamiliar with DC's heroic catalog and just the movies in and of themselves, you'd be certain this was a Marvel movie and not DC.

There was a moment when the color washed out of the film and it felt like a Snyder movie, but honestly, given the context, it WORKED. she was going from the beautiful colors of paradise to the washed out world of mankind. And life gets drained out of you, like the color palette. It turned the stylistic problems of Snyder into an honest to God positive.

I've said in the other thread I don't like the WWI setting, and I don't think the scenes at the Front work due to the issues with World War I, and Wonder Woman not really fitting there. But the rest of the movie works like gangbusters, and the movie really only spends about five minutes on the Front. As soon as it moves to the village, the tonal problem resolves itself.

The best thing about the movie is that the supporting cast works well and each feel like fully realized characters, and they all get their own moment. They also have logical motivations and aren't just magical plot devices (more of a problem with the MCU).

I do think it's getting a pass for its ham-fisted framing device, but whatever. Critics are just happy this doesn't suck, and that a DCU film wasn't a brutal slog. So they are ignoring some of the film's weaker points because A) it doesn't really ruin the film and B) no one wants to spoil the party. It's a fun movie. And we're all better off if there's competition in the superhero genre.
