Colorado had like 8 players drafted that year, including multiple in the first and second round.

GT had three drafted that year, and the earliest was like the 8th round.

Colorado also had the 2nd highest SOS in the country that year, while GT had 28th.

Colorado needed a fifth down to beat a 4-7 Missouri team and a bogus penalty to beat Norte Dame in the Orange Bowl.

Yeah, it speaks volumes that Colorado had major controversy in a number of their wins (Fifth down, phantom block in the back penalty against ND), a worse record than GT (CU 11-1-1 vs GT 11-0-1) and was still awarded a split championship.
