The critics didn't help. Half of them gave it a thumbs down and the bad reviews were ruthless.

Well it's an uneven movie. We don't have to pretend it's a masterpiece.

The RT score is 51% and the audience score is 60% so it's not like there is a massive gap there. The previews just straight up didn't make anyone want to go see it. It's no secret that the advertising campaign was one of the worst ever done. They had no idea how to market it at all.

Studio execs bitching about and blaming the critics for Baywatch and Pirates 5 should be tossed out on the street. They are useless twats that can't take blame for their own failures.

I'm a fan of both Efron and Rock comedies. Even though I'm predisposed to liking them both I still thought the Baywatch previews were awful. It doesn't look like a movie that needs to be seen in theaters.

It's also not like Dwyane's non Fast and Furious movies have been dominating the US box office either. He is extremely likable but even his biggest fans surely have to admit that his movies tend to be fairly average. As for Efron, he has only been in two live action movies that made over $100 million in the US. He just isn't a huge draw.

Movies onto Pirates, why would anyone be shocked that it had it's lowest opening ever? It's the 5th film in a franchise that most people think has gotten worse w/each film. (personally I rank them 1,4,2,3) Johnny Depp is clearly no longer the star he once was due to many different reasons. Take your pick from his poor film choices, too many JD as random weird guy takes, general rich clueless douchbaggery w/his money issues, and the very real possibility that he is a woman abuser at worst and a massive a-hole when drunk at best.

The very fact that Disney kinda sorta barely showed Depp in the previews should have clued everyone into the fact that he is a little toxic right now.

I would expect audience scores to do well for both films b/c the people going to theaters to see those movies are predisposed to already liking them. Who goes to Pirates 5 opening weekend that didn't like most of the other four? Who goes to a movie version of a cheesy show like Baywatch unless they are big fans of The Rock?

Is it bad that I didn't know there was even a 4th Pirates?
