Thats the problem at my course. The sand is so inconsistent. I know Im not helping my situation by not doing things that has been mention already in the thread.

When I'm digging in my feet before I hit my shot, I'm generally able to tell how the ball will react from the sand.
Now this may not be perfect advice, but for me if it's wet or if there's very little sand I almost play more of a pitch shot with an open face. Thick or soft sand I'll take a bigger swing for the most part with an open face as well. Ball is almost always at the front of my stance.
Only time I won't use an open face in a green side bunker is if I get a fried egg.
