I could be totally wrong but we can't trade 2018 first round pick because we already traded our 2017 pick?

You are both right and wrong. The Stepian Rule prohibits teams from trading consecutive "future" picks. It would have been illegal to trade our 2013 and 2014 1sts for Jrue Holiday. But after using our 2013 pick on Nerlens Noel, the 2013 1st was no longer a future pick which unlocked our ability to trade the 2014 pick. So once the 2017 draft happens our 2018 pick is on the table as a tradeable asset.

And sometimes, it gets circumvented by allowing pick swaps (what Brooklyn and Boston had done).
