So you loved when slavery was legal in America? Good to know.
Why would you put words in his mouth? he plainly said he loved the country from beginning to end. Every country has had slavery in its past. Must we hate everybody in order to appease your self righteousness?

AS God is my witness, I thought if I brought up a War that theoretically many of us have ancestors who fought and or died in them, that we could Stand Together for this Memorial Day, honestly, I am sorry to have provoked or offered such an opportunity for a awful and disgraceful slug fest, about our ancestors, no matter what side you WERE ON, by the way it is over.
Americans who lost their lives in a war should be honored. You did nothing wrong. We just have a lot of trolls that want to be argumentative and play "gotcha".
The North lost a good number of soldiers after the Emancipation Proclamation because they did not want to fight for slaves freedom. Do we shun their deaths because of their stand?
We honor all Americans who fought in a time of war and lost their lives.
Some fought for very noble reasons with every intent of defending our country. Some fought because they were drafted and hated every single second they were in a war. Some fought because they wanted to kill somebody.
Whatever their reasons, they fought and they lost their lives.

I try to refrain from urination on the ground. Being in the South, sacred Confederate soldiers might have marched on these hollow grounds. Urinating on said ground could be seen as disrespectful per sons of the Confederacy on this site.
There are subjects that really should not be trolled. This is one of them. It really does disrespect people that were willing to fight and lost their lives.

Just you know, I'm very proud of my southern bretheren here in this thread that no one has told me, "The south will rise again!"

Put words in his mouth? I quoted him directly.

end? When did America end? And to say one loves the country means one loves all that it stood for, which in the case of the USA, unfortunately means legal slavery. That is the only point I was making.

I clearly specified legal slavery. And no, every country has not had legal slavery in its past. Who's putting words into people's mouths now?

WTF are you talking about? Resorting to ad hominem attacks against me because you really don't have an argument or valid point.

I'll respectfully remember their sacrifice by not flying confederate battle flags of pretending the war was fought for economic reasons that were somehow not directly tied to slavery.
Slightly disappointed that you are taking this implied slam on the soldiers who fought on the CSA side.
These were all honorable men - who laid down their lives fighting as all honorable men do - for their family, their friends, their neighbors, their country. At that time allegiance was to the state first, then to the 'united states' - they came into the union willingly and felt they could leave it if it no longer served their purpose.
You know that the vast majority of the soldiers who fought in that war did not fight with the purpose of maintaining slavery. You also know that if you switched the places of birth for the soldiers on either side the war would have happened in exactly the same way. To honor the Union soldiers, while denigrating the Confederate soldiers is really sophistry of the highest order.
I know you know that - so I am confused by the tenor of your post.
I don't fly the confederate flag - never have - never will. But I will rise to defend the honor of those who fought under it as long as I have the means to do so.
To me, those who revel in the glory of the CSA are misguided. But those who seek to malign the sacrifices of the soldiers of the CSA are worse.
Let them be - honor whichever side your ancestor were on for their dedication to their principles - to the extent they would lay down their lives for it.
That is all -

You insinuated that he was proud of slavery. You know that isn't what he was saying.

You want to twist words again? From beiginning to today. If I have to explain everything to you, you will only get more confused. Seems obvious you are incapable of following a simple line of thought.

Name me one country that has not. Hint: You won't be able to.

I am merely pointing out you holier than thou attitude when you clearly don't know what you are talking about.
Now...as for your postion that there have been countries that have never had slavery, I went to a nice liberal site to get you the answer....Reddit.
From ask Historians:
Are there any countries that never had slavery?
The simple answer is no, but it largely depends on how you define "country." For example, slavery drove the colonial economies in places like Brazil and Australia, but there is scant evidence of slavery in either of those places before the arrival of Europeans - there just isn't much need for slaves in a hunter-gatherer society. Conversely, slavery in places like the Netherlands and Great Britain hadn't been practiced since 1000-1100, but they were the major drivers of the Atlantic slave trade and utilized them in their colonies.
Essentially, while it's difficult to say yes or no given the 190-something countries in the world, it's almost impossible to imagine any country that has managed to entirely escape the influence of slavery, at some point in their history.
I will wait for my apology when you get the chance.

I don't believe this - you would have to be infected with the stupid virus, or else be very new to this board, to not know that any mention of the Civil War would bring out the 'virtue signalers' on one side and the 'got to be proud of something' on the other side to go to verbal fisticuffs with one another.
I just don't believe you.

Well, as long as you had fun trolling about soldiers who fought for their country and died, then I geuss it is ok.
