Starting a thread like this is specifically to draw out an argument about Confederate soldiers. And you know it

AS God is my witness, I thought if I brought up a War that theoretically many of us have ancestors who fought and or died in them, that we could Stand Together for this Memorial Day, honestly, I am sorry to have provoked or offered such an opportunity for a awful and disgraceful slug fest, about our ancestors, no matter what side you WERE ON, by the way it is over.

I try to refrain from urination on the ground. Being in the South, sacred Confederate soldiers might have marched on these hollow grounds. Urinating on said ground could be seen as disrespectful per sons of the Confederacy on this site.

This isn't your thread? That was directed to OP, not you. Your thread from yesterday was genuine. This one is because the OP is convinced he is 5 times as clever as he is

Im gonna sit here, with Lee Greenwood on repeat, with a tear in my eye, while all you CONFEDERATE sympathizers whistle Dixie. God Bless America, the best song ever written, other than Francis Scott Keyes nationl anthem.

Well if you are not so informed. Monday is Memorial Day in the US. Confederate Memorial day is another day. I recognize them both and recognize them equally. Truth be known none of us today could hack the service veterans of the War Between the States endured. Modern snowflakes are not and never will have the integrity those men had. I wish slavery had never happened. I wish the war had never occurred. Our nation lost the contributions of a generation and it could have been avoided.

So you loved when slavery was legal in America? Good to know.

Some soldiers, like Lee, PGT Beauregard and Jefferson Davis, fought for America and the Confederacy. They should be honored for their US wars (Mexican-American, etc.) on Monday.

WP, on this guy I agree with you. We have clashed in the past and will continue to do in the future. At least you present an argument on your behalf. It might be jaded by your leanings, but they are noteworthy. If you left off the personal attacks, it would be better. If you insult a man's lineage, you will not make friends. I think we all agree the war was a complicated matter. I think we both agree that it could have been prevented. Money, power, and self-interest will usually end up in a conflict. Seems no side was 100% right or wrong. As usual the common man gets caught in the middle.

Find a new country if you hate America

He didn't say he hated America. he said he hated Yankees. BIG difference.

I'll catch flak, but I am glad the North won for two main reasons.
1. It did put an end to a dark period in our history....slavery.
2. There is no telling how the rest of history would have played out had it gone the other way. Would the Confederate States of America and the United States of America have gotten into WWI and WWII, and how would that have changed the outcome of either war?

Without knowing the answers to the second question, I am quite content with a united country.
