re: Michael Thomas has gained 10 lbs of muscle since last season.

Thomas wasn't skinny though. He weighed 213 at the combine and certainly didn't play small last year, which is why I find the gain a little curious. He was a good not great athlete. It's just playing with fire to me

as a blanket statement this isn't correct, but if you don't know what the composition of the weight is, and what muscle groups have been strengthened, it's pointless to debate
If he can gain 10lbs of clean muscle in 5 months already being in elite level shape, he'd be better off selling that recipe then playing football.
Too add weight that quick chances are he is not gaining 10lbs and adding explosiveness & speed. Strength? Yea

We are impressed by your knowledge of high end training and weight/mass gain of a 23 year old professional athlete and its ramifications going forward.

I don't know much about this sort of thing, but are we to assume that the Saints, a billion dollar entity with million dollar athletes, and the best trainers money can buy are capable of doing things at a different level than the common man?
Can you point me in the direction of any sources that explain why this is improbable that he gained the weight properly?

I hope you find a great weekend Lester and a sense of humor.

Yeah Gyno but Thomas is much faster than Boldin. He won't ever be a burner like JJ, but I could see him getting more deep balls now that the trust is there between him and Brees. AJ Green is to Michael Thomas as Michael Thomas is Anquan Boldin. MT13 somewhere in between the two. He ain't blazing fast, but he's got some quickness and game speed.
Marques Colston ran a faster 40 at the combine than Thomas, but when I watch them play, I don't see that at all. Thomas looks a lot twitchier

I'm not saying he didn't gain it properly. I have no doubt he gained plenty muscle but I'm just saying it may not be all that beneficial. People think muscle gain results are always positive but given his position, athleticism and size that may not be the case.
If he were a freak athlete I'd say yea who gives a shite

Not the assurance of your earlier statement.

they always say this 10lbs is a lot. Physics will say he has sacrificed some of the above.

What don't you under stand?
I can understand wanting to get stronger but 10lbs is still 10lbs. At a position so dependent on moving well it could becone problematic.
Guys generally lose weight to gain speed mobility explosiveness COD. Not gain 10lbs

Anyone who thinks a mere 10lbs. of muscle will affect his speed or mobility either way substantially is bonkers.
Plus muscle can help you carry your pads better if they weighed you down before (but again 10 lbs. is not going to affect that much).
What it will help with is hand fighting and getting off jams at the line and fighting for the ball in the air.
The benefits would far outweigh any hypothetical .01 drop in 40 time.
Unless you think Thomas looked slow or unathletic on the field last year and this will suddenly tank him. And 4.56(?) isn't slow. It's not top end or elite speed, but how many guys run 4.4s and can catch? There's a reason those types go very early. They are rare.

I've been saying for years these guys should run 40s with pads on. Some guys have track speed without pads and then put the pads on and get weighed down. Other guys can run the same with or without them.
And then there are guys that just seem to kick it up a gear when the adrenaline is pumping.

5 months = 10 pounds
1 pound = 3500 calories
Pretty much an excess of 200 calories a day (give or take) with the best trainers in the world...
Yal make it sound like he gained the 40lbs that Benjamin did or looked like a fat 10lbs gained. 220 is a solid weight for his height, he needs the size and strength if he's going to be that #1 willing to take huge hits over the middle.

They can do both.
It's like some people who ignore pads and argue pads affect cooks the same as Julio...

Gaining 10 lbs isn't hard. Yea for sure he ate a lot and is likely stronger.
Gaining 10 lbs of good weight in 5 months is near impossibile
213 was a fine weight for him. No one would say he played weak or was over matched at that weight
When you're a WR 10 lbs is a big jump in weight for a guy already in great shape
Gaining weight for skill position has been a dying trend over the last few years for guys that don't need to add bulk. Quite the opposite, guys are dropping weight, improve speed, change of direction, mobility, explosivebess. It's surprising for sure because you don't improve those things going from 210-220 in 5 months

If 10lbs wasn't substantial then it wouldn't be a story. Once again you are off the mark. Stick to your video games

which is a good thing if he has to be more physical, no?
That denver game told many people how him being stronger would be ideal if he's to be a #1 receiver. he got pushed around quite a bit vs physical lb/dbs all year. he's going to be matched up with them year round now and if it helps his physicality, than its worth losing the slight speed he may have lost otherwise.

It is and I'm sure he gained fat with it, but say it was 7lbs of muscle and 3lbs of fat, the offset is worth it no?
he was listed at 212 and finished the season at 210. now he's at 220, chances are he's going to dip down from that number by season start considering most naturally fit players with good eating habits have a hard time keeping the weight over a season. If the change is good weight, it shouldn't affect his speed to be a detriment. Last year, when you watch him going over the middle, he looked skinny (especially his legs). Him adding a little bit isn't a bad thing, him gaining 30+ and becoming Eddie Lacy/Kelvin Benjamin is problematic.

He might end up dropping weight before or during the season. I agree that gaining 10lbs could be a bad thing, but we'll see. He'll probably end up playing at around 215ish

Played at 210 last year and is now 220. Reportedly has not lost a bit of speed either. Ship.
Everybody knows what happens when these Ohio State WR's get to the league
