he became a catholic in 2009, if that conversion was done properly then both previous marriages have been annulled (even if they weren't performed in the catholic church they still must be annulled) he's taken confession (you have too before you receive your first communion) and god has forgiven them.

Perfect choice I'd say.
Or do you think the Catholic clergy are pure as the driven snow?

I cannot think of a less relevant ambassadorship as those jobs go than that to the Holy See, so what is the problem?
And OP, Iceland is a NATO member, that post is infinetly more important than who gets to take pictures with the pope and set their friends up with tours of St Peters

1 Timothy 1:15. We would all do well to remember it.

Of ALL the sh*t-for-brains opinions I have EVER read on TD, this is the cherry on top.
You DO realize that there are 1 billion Catholics around the globe, in nearly every corner of the earth, represented by nearly every ethnicity and language... all reporting to a central authority? Or don't you?
President Reagan's administration felt that the Vatican was the greatest intelligence collecting body on the earth, including the CIA. Catholics tell their priest what they see and hear, the priests tell their bishops, the bishops tell the archbishops... it all filters back to the Vatican.
There are allegiances by the faithful where there would otherwise be no 'in' to an informant or source.
Damn, boy. I bet you voted for Bernie.

1. Its a terible choice.*
2. Seems to signal the end to rumors that newt will be wh chief of staff after reince is flushed / arraigned for leaks.
* as noted, past of infamy.
You could send someone honored, with known serious spiritual practice and much much more money.

If the Vatican had any morals they would refuse to accept her (there is no requirement that the receiving country accept any ambassador).
But if they give enough $$$ then that's all that matters to them (or, sadly, to many churches and denominations today).

Slut Newt did so much dirty deeds everything is confused.
He was cheating with wife #2 while wife #1 was dying of cancer (and he served the papers while she was in the hospital).
Callista and Newt were doing the deed while wife #2 had MS (and refused to agree to an open marriage).
And the first two marriages were around 18 years, and Callista and Newt are coming up on 17. She may want to watch out, shall we say.

You are a fool. The Vatican ambassadorship is completely ceremonial/administrative. Admittedly, so are about 90% of them.
Absolutely zero Catholics "report" to the Vatican. What are you even talking about. This isn't the 1970's. We aren't getting information against communism in (mostly catholic) central/South America and Eastern Europe anymore. To pretend a vast network of spying archbishops exists currently is hilarious. I grew up Catholic, I've never met or heard of a person declare allegiance to the Holy See. It's separate from the Church, but I don't expect you to be able to understand that.

but to me, this is slap in the face to Catholics -- of which I am one.
Do you say this of the Pope considering some of the things he has said and done?

If you look at where she and Newt appear to be in their faith life today it makes a lot of sense. From all indications they are practicing Catholics in good standing. Newt has even voiced a couple of books on the Catholic faith.

Personally, I would have found an atheist to do it.

Holy crap... you just don't get get it. No one is 'spying', no one is 'reporting'. It's a billion people going on about their daily lives who happen to mention anecdotally about this or that encounter. The priests aren't "reporting" either... but if something is extraordinary, they mention it in regular conversation to their bishop... and on and on it goes.
It's incredibly powerful because it is NOT active intelligence. It's people passively living their lives.
Damn, boy. Dim light bulb.
