The pulse thing was just a random event.

David had been on the Engineer's planet for 10 years and was stranded. He had killed every living animal on the planet and needed to get off to continue experimenting. He turned on the beacon to play the hologram of Shaw singing knowing if any humans ever picked it up they would be curious and check out where it originated from, giving him a chance to escape from the planet. When Tennessee got far enough away from the Covenant he was able to pick up bits of the transmission from the beacon.

I can believe pulse was a random event. It was the car breakdown in the beginning of a humor movie.

If this was the Engineer home world shouldn't there be more ships? David was so keen on experimentation why didn't leave? Also how did he know the landing party was there? Was there a disturbance in the Force ? I imagine the crashed ship may have how alerted him when it activated. I just remembered that had to be the ship Shaw came to the planet on. I still don't understand how it crashed when it docked and released all those eggs.
