ARMS = Nintendo's Overwatch? New character trailer has Nintendo fans going nuts.

A lot of people seem to be drawing comparisons between the two given the diversity of characters. The direct pretty much sold me on getting the game. Looks fun as hell and kind of goofy.

Really doesn't surprise me though. This is the same company whose idea of a post apocalyptic shooter is lit squid children super soaking the shite out of eachother.

Also, let's address the elephant in the room. Nintendo dropped a bombshell at the end of the ARMS part of the direct. YouTubers and fan artists have gone nuts over the last character reveal and it's hilarious.

EtikaWorldNetwork's live reaction to Twintelle in ARMS (somewhat loud with language and sexual references...NSFW)

Here are a few memes that have popped up over the last 24 hours.

All that aside, I would think it's a fair comparison. As mentioned already, it's diverse and has some fun lore behind it, if you wanna call it that. Pretty unique and looks like it will be an e-sports hit as well.

ETA: I know there's already a thread, and I even commented on it.

I don't care at all about the Overwatch memes or lore, I just hate how people have to make political points w/ characters from games like this.

The creativity and diversity is great in Overwatch and I guess in this game it appears, I just don't want to hear shite about it all the time or see it actually incorporated into some kind of in-game storyline.

My big worry with this is the skill level. So far, and probably because of inexperience, videos have looked like people flailing. As long as the skill cap is high, and it's predictable, I think it could be huge.

I believe it will mostly depend on whether or not there is sensitivity options and people's actual understanding of basic boxing strategy. Which really you throw out the window when you're doing it from 20 yards away.

But as far as the 2nd reply goes, yeah I know. When I was reacting to it myself, I thought that it would be brought up about the political aspect and other things. The thing I was most proud of was that it wasn't announced WHY she would be what she was or something similar to that.

I remember the overwatch director or one of the higher ups actually releasing a statement that there would be more LGBTQ characters in there.

About a few days later they revealed the tracer was gay. I couldn't help but think to myself it was one of the most forced things I'd thought to myself in a while.

That's the main point I was trying to get across. Not making a character with the audience in mind. Making a character unique for the audience to love and enjoy over time.

I can't see this as something close to Overwatch, but I'm sure it'll find its niche. I don't understand the obsession with some of the Nintendo character models though. It's like people are just now aware that designers make characters with butts and boobs.

This. But I think Four meant Community, eSports, general popularity, probably not sales.

Obsession with any VG character is tough to understand but Nintendo has done a fairly good job of NOT overly sexualizing their characters.

ETA: That made no sense haha

It's just unexpected. Nintendo has been uber conservative for a long time, and seeing their IP, even if it is just a little more uhhhh....thicc...than others, makes for a pleasant surprise, in a sense.

After Metroid: Other M I don't see how they can say this is the most exploitive Nintendo has been with a female character. And with that game, they did it to the original video game heroine which makes it all the more insulting.

I think it will be a decent game for the Switch. I just hope it isn't super easy.

It's an interesting concept for sure, but it also just looks like an advanced boxing game. I just worry about depth with a game like that.

Now that j think about it, the warning signs were always there. Twintelle must be related to Olivia from Pokémon S&M.

I guess I can understand the "taboo" nature of your kid developer moving into 13+ games, but I still don't get the mass fervor. Even with games that are already on the same platform are far more gratuitous than anything Nintendo makes themselves.

As far as gameplay, I think Splatoon was Nintendo's Overwatch.
