That is not necessarily true. First off the other guy is referring to the guard or reserve vs active duty. I started out as active duty and really had no say in where I was stationed. I got to fill out a "dream sheet" and I didn't go to anywhere on my dream sheet. Now I am in the guard and only go once a month but I'm apart of one unit and that will never change unless I choose to transfer.

To answer the original question. No you shouldn't feel like your time is wasted. I'm certain you have learned and grown a lot from while you have been in. You have no control over whether or not you get deployed.
